Top Rated Snow Blowers

With a lot of great brands of snow blowers out there it can be tough to figure out which one to buy, even when you have a list of the top rated snow blowers. Often times, you may see both a John Deere and a Honda snow blower ranking well. More often than not each major brand will have at least one model that ranks very well. When you are buying a snow blower, it is important to assess your needs well before you even begin to shop, that way you can immediately narrow down the field. It doesn’t matter if you are looking at a John Deere, Honda, Toro, Yard King, or MTD snow blower; they all have a wide variety of options available.

Electric Snow Blowers

Beyond the many options of snow blowers available there are 3 distinct types you can purchase, electric snow blowers, these are for sidewalks at best, if you have a small city lot and are simply in charge of clearing off the sidewalk they can work great. There are a few draw backs, mostly the fact that you have to drag a cord behind you, which can not only be a pain but can be dangerous, they also can’t really handle a large amount of snow. That said, they store easily, and require very little if any maintenance.

Single Stage Snow Blowers

The second type available is a single stage snow blower; this is for medium sized jobs, they are not propelled often so you will still be doing the pushing but the motor driven propellers will chop away at most snow piles. They will typically cover a wider area than an electric snow blower, and work great if you have a small drive way, or are looking for a little more power for those sidewalks. Single stage snow blowers can typically handle a good amount of snow and are a great upgrade over the electric models but are typically not good in areas that get a lot of snow, or have heavy snow, they just don’t have the juice to move that stuff! If you are living in a place where you get a large amount of snow, or often times wet heavy snow, it’s best to consider a two stage snow blower, even if you can only afford an entry level one. There is nothing worse than having a snow blower that cannot handle the job. That said, if you are prone to light dustings or random large snow falls but the snow is generally not wet and heavy, a single stage snow blower will be just fine for you.

Two Stage Snow Blowers

The top of the line in snow blowers is known as a two stage snow blower. The main difference between single-stage and two-stage throwers is the spinning impeller behind the snow collection auger. The impeller functions like a pump. It collects the snow churned by the main auger and pushes it from the discharge chute at increased speed. This will allow you to handle much bigger snowfalls and move them a much greater distance. If you have a large driveway, or get a significant amount of snow you should certainly we looking at a two stage snow blower. The nice thing about two stage snow blowers is that they are also self propelled, in most cases have steering options, and are quite easy to walk behind and clear large amounts of snow fairly easily. All this greatness will of course come at a price, two stage snow blowers will cost you about $1000 for a decent one, often times if you watch the sales you can get a good deal though.
