If you are living in a place where you get a large amount of snow, or often times wet heavy snow, it’s best to consider a two stage snow blower, even if you can only afford an entry level one. There is nothing worse than having a snow blower that cannot handle the job. That said, if you are prone to light dustings or random large snow falls but the snow is generally not wet and heavy, a single stage snow blower will be just fine for you.

Two Stage Snow Blowers


The top of the line in snow blowers is known as a two stage snow blower. The main difference between single-stage and two-stage throwers is the spinning impeller behind the snow collection auger. The impeller functions like a pump. It collects the snow churned by the main auger and pushes it from the discharge chute at increased speed. This will allow you to handle much bigger snowfalls and move them a much greater distance. If you have a large driveway, or get a significant amount of snow you should certainly we looking at a two stage snow blower. The nice thing about two stage snow blowers is that they are also self propelled, in most cases have steering options, and are quite easy to walk behind and clear large amounts of snow fairly easily. All this greatness will of course come at a price, two stage snow blowers will cost you about $1000 for a decent one, often times if you watch the sales you can get a good deal though.
